🏠 Week 42 Home Check Reminder

Welcome to Week 42 of the Weekly Home Check

Winter is quickly approaching and I can't wait for our upcoming tasks but this week, let's focus on keeping our drains flowing and ensuring the bathroom fans are working properly.

🚰 Flush Drains

Regularly flushing your kitchen sink with boiling water helps prevent grease and gunk buildup. A quick reminder: if you have a glass or porcelain sink, consider warming the glass with hot water to avoid cracking.

  1. Boil a half gallon to a gallon of water.
  2. Carefully pour half of it down the drain.
  3. Wait a few minutes.
  4. Pour the other half of the boiled water down the drain.

Additionally, 3-4 times a year, it's a good idea to flush your drains with a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. Follow these steps:

  1. Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain (use a funnel or a rolled-up piece of paper to get it all down the drain).
  2. Follow it with 1/2 cup of vinegar.
  3. Cover the drain tightly with a wet rag or rubber plug.
  4. After 5 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.
  5. TIP: The most important part is to make sure the drain is covered to trap the reaction and push through any buildup.

🚽 Clean Bathroom Fan

Proper ventilation is essential for a clean and pleasant bathroom experience. Bathroom fans are often overlooked but should be cleaned every 10-12 weeks. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Turn off power to the fan from the circuit breaker.
  2. Remove the fan cover and pull it out.
  3. Use a brush or cloth to wipe away any dust or dirt.
  4. Stand on a ladder or stool to wipe away any dust on the actual fan.
  5. Allow the cover and fan to dry completely before reattaching.

If case you missed it, these last few weeks we began some of our winterization tasks. Find all those supplies linked here on Amazon or Lowes.
