๐Ÿ  Week 49 Home Check Reminder

Welcome to Week 49 of the Weekly Home Check.

This week, weโ€™re focusing on a key areas that often get overlooked in the kitchen: the filters above our stove. Keeping these components clean will help maintain a healthier home environment and reduce unwanted odors.

But first, let's check out this week's sponsor, which helps keep these reminders free:

Range Hood/Microwave Filter โ€‹
The filters above your stove are designed to remove grease, smoke, and odors while you cook. First, let's determine which type of system you have, then clean or replace the filters as needed.

Do I have a vented or non-vented filter?

  • Stand under the hood or microwave while the fan is running - If you feel air blowing back into the room from the front grille, the system is non-vented (recirculating).
  • Check for a duct - Look inside the cabinet above your microwave or range hood. If you see a metal duct going upward or outward, the system is vented.

Vented Filters

  • Remove the Filter: Gently slide or unclip the filter from its housing. Be careful not to bend it if itโ€™s made of aluminum mesh.
  • Soak and Clean: Fill your sink with hot water. Spray the grease filter with some Dawn Power Wash. Submerge the filter and let it soak for 10-15 minutes. Use a soft brush to gently scrub away any buildup.
  • Rinse and Dry: Rinse the filter thoroughly with warm water. Allow it to air dry completely.
  • Replace if Necessary: If your filter is extremely dirty beyond cleaning, consider replacing it.(Purchase here)

Non-Vented Filters

  • Non-vented systems use both a metal mesh filter and a charcoal odor filter. These cannot be cleaned and must be replaced every 6โ€“12 months, depending on how often you cook. Here's a link to charcoal filters in various sizes.

I can't believe this year is almost over! Hope you all enjoy the final few weeks of the year. Get ready for my 2026 checklist coming soon!
