๐Ÿ  Week 17 Home Check Reminder

Welcome to Week 17 of the Weekly Home Check

Spring cleaning is in full swing! This week, letโ€™s tackle the walls, baseboards and floors.

๐Ÿงน Cleaning Floors, Baseboards, and Walls

Walls & Baseboards

  1. Dust the entire surface.
  2. Mix 1 teaspoon of dish or castile soap with about 16 ounces of warm water into a spray bottle.
  3. Spray in a sweeping motion at an angle, avoiding direct spraying onto the wall.
  4. Use a damp microfiber flat mop to wipe off the soap, rinsing the mop as needed.
  5. For tough stains and scuff marks, use a foaming wall cleaner.
  6. Keep in mind that semi-gloss paint is easy to wash, while matte or flat paint should really only be spot cleaned as needed.
  7. TIP: Keep all your wall paints in your Home Journal and Log Book for easy reference.

Hardwood Floors

  1. Vacuum or sweep all the surfaces.
  2. Spray the floors with a neutral floor cleaner like the ones found here.
  3. Wipe with a damp mop. Completely wring out your mop of excess water as wood does not do well with excess moisture.
  4. Allow to air dry before walking on them.
  5. TIP: Stay away from vinegar on your floors. The acid will deteriorate the finish over time.

Carpets:

  1. Vacuum thoroughly first, especially along edges
  2. Treat stains with a carpet-safe spot cleaner โ€‹
  3. Use a carpet cleaner or rent a machine and follow directions
  4. Allow carpets to fully dry before walking on them
  5. Pro tip: Use fans or open windows to speed up drying and prevent mildew.

๐Ÿ› Repairing Cracked Tiles

Cracked Tiles:

  1. Remove the grout surrounding the affected tile, then remove cracked tile with a chisel or utility knife.
  2. Next remove all the old adhesive.
  3. Apply new tile adhesive to the exposed surface.
  4. Press the new tile firmly into place and ensure it is level with the surrounding tiles. Allow it to set for at least 24 hours.
  5. Fill the seams with grout and allow it to dry. Wipe off any excess grout with a damp sponge.

Welcome to Week 19 of the Weekly Home Check This week, weโ€™re focusing on preventing water damage and moldโ€”sneaky issues that can cause major trouble for your home and your health if left unchecked. ๐Ÿ’ฆ Water Damage: Inspect ceilings, walls, and floors for any signs of water stains, discoloration, or warping. Check around windows and doors for signs of leaks or water infiltration. Examine your roof for missing or damaged shingles, as well as signs of water penetration. Use a moisture meter to...

Welcome to Week 18 of the Weekly Home Check Three months have flown by, which means itโ€™s time to swap out those air filters and clean the air purifiers again. ๐Ÿ’จ Replace HVAC Filters For air return vents/grids: Locate the metal grid inside your home. They are generally in a central location, in the hallway or ceiling. Turn off the unit to prevent blowing dust. Open the grid, replace the used filter with a brand new one. I like to use a MERV 8, which can be found here. Close the grid, turn the...

Welcome to Week 16 of the Weekly Home Check Another three months have passed, which means itโ€™s time to clean the washing machine and dryer vents again! ๐Ÿ‘š๐Ÿ‘• Clean the Washing Machine Regular cleaning is essential and prevents odor caused by mold and mildew.
