🏠 Week 12 Home Check Reminder

Welcome to Week 12 of the Weekly Home Check

Let's hope the cold weather is behind us and continue prepping our home for warmer days ahead! This week, let’s get a head start on readying your grass, lawnmower, grill, and patio furniture for spring and summer.

⛽ Oiling the Lawnmower

  • Start by checking the oil level and condition. If needed, drain the old oil and replace it with fresh oil.
  • Replace the spark plugs, lubricate any moving parts and sharpen the blades. Lawn mower tools linked here.

🍖 Setting Up the Grill

  • Give the grill a cleaning, removing any built-up grease and debris. Find all my grill cleaning tools linked here.
  • Check the propane or charcoal supply and replenish as necessary.

⛱️ Prepping the Patio Furniture

  • Give your furniture a good spray or scrub to remove dirt and grime accumulated over the winter months.
  • Check for any signs of wear or damage, such as rust or loose screws, and make any necessary repairs.

🌱 Prepping the Lawn

These steps should be done over the next couple of months and adjusted based on the region where you live.

  • Begin by raking away any dead leaves, twigs, or debris that have accumulated over the winter. Consider using a de-thatcher.
  • Aerate the soil to promote better airflow and water absorption.
  • Apply a spring fertilizer and pre-emergent to nourish your lawn before the soil temperature has reaches 55 degrees. Then give the grass a healthy water.
  • Cut the grass 1-2 times a week, then by late spring give the grass a 2nd fertilization.
  • Reduce the amount of times you mow the grass and apply a weed killer if needed.
  • If you used a pre-emergent, you should not plant any new seeds until the end of summer.

Check around windows and doors for signs of leaks or water infiltration. Examine your roof for missing or damaged shingles, as well as signs of water penetration. Use a moisture meter to...

Welcome to Week 18 of the Weekly Home Check Three months have flown by, which means it’s time to swap out those air filters and clean the air purifiers again. 💨 Replace HVAC Filters For air return vents/grids: Locate the metal grid inside your home. They are generally in a central location, in the hallway or ceiling. Turn off the unit to prevent blowing dust. Open the grid, replace the used filter with a brand new one. I like to use a MERV 8, which can be found here. Close the grid, turn the...

This week, let’s tackle the walls, baseboards and floors. 🧹 Cleaning Floors, Baseboards, and Walls Walls & Baseboards Dust the entire surface. Mix 1 teaspoon of dish or castile soap with about 16 ounces of warm water into a spray bottle. Spray in a sweeping motion at an angle, avoiding direct spraying onto the wall. Use a damp microfiber flat mop to wipe off the soap, rinsing the mop as needed. For tough stains and...
