🏠 Week 11 Home Check Reminder

Welcome to Week 11 of the Weekly Home Check

As we shift from winter to spring, it’s time to get our outdoor gear ready for the season ahead. This week, let’s reattach garden hoses, check sprinklers, and store snow blowers properly.

🚰 Reattaching the Garden Hose:

  • Retrieve your garden hose from storage, whether it's stored in the garage or basement.
  • Remove any covers placed over the spigots.
  • Attach one end of the hose securely to the outdoor faucet, ensuring it's tightly screwed on to prevent leaks.
  • Turn on the outdoor water supply from inside your house.
  • Check the connection for leaks once the outdoor faucet is turned on, and fix as needed.

🌨 Check the Sprinkler Systems:

  • Inspect Sprinkler Heads: Walk around your lawn and inspect each sprinkler head for damage or blockages. Clear away any debris or dirt that may be obstructing the spray pattern.
  • Turn on the Sprinklers: Turn on your sprinkler system and observe each sprinkler head to ensure it's functioning correctly. Adjust the direction and range of the spray as needed.
  • Check for Leaks: Look for any signs of leaks in the sprinkler system, such as pooling water or soggy areas in the lawn. Address any leaks promptly to prevent water waste and damage to your property.

❄️Store the Snowblower

  • Clean the Snowblower: Thoroughly clean your snowblower and remove any debris. Pay attention to the chute, auger, and blades.
  • Add Fuel Stabilizer: If your snowblower is gas-powered, add a fuel stabilizer to the gas tank to prevent the fuel from deteriorating during storage.
  • Store in a Dry Location: Store the snowblower in a dry, sheltered location to protect it from the elements. Cover the snowblower with a tarp or protective cover to keep it clean until next winter.

Check around windows and doors for signs of leaks or water infiltration. Examine your roof for missing or damaged shingles, as well as signs of water penetration. Use a moisture meter to...

Welcome to Week 18 of the Weekly Home Check Three months have flown by, which means it’s time to swap out those air filters and clean the air purifiers again. 💨 Replace HVAC Filters For air return vents/grids: Locate the metal grid inside your home. I like to use a MERV 8, which can be found here. Close the grid, turn the...

This week, let’s tackle the walls, baseboards and floors. 🧹 Cleaning Floors, Baseboards, and Walls Walls & Baseboards Dust the entire surface. Mix 1 teaspoon of dish or castile soap with about 16 ounces of warm water into a spray bottle. Spray in a sweeping motion at an angle, avoiding direct spraying onto the wall. Use a damp microfiber flat mop to wipe off the soap, rinsing the mop as needed. For tough stains and...
