🚽 Clean Bathroom Fan

Exhaust fans reduce mold and mildew buildup in our bathrooms and should be cleaned a couple times a year.

  1. Turn off power to the fan from the circuit breaker.
  2. Remove the fan cover and pull it out.
  3. Use a brush or cloth to wipe away any dust or dirt.
  4. Stand on a ladder and remove any dust on the actual fan with a vacuum or some compressed air.
  5. Allow the cover and fan to dry completely before reattaching.

🚰 Flush Drains

Regularly flushing your kitchen sink with hot water helps prevent grease and gunk buildup. A quick reminder: if you have a glass or porcelain sink, consider warming the glass with hot water to avoid cracking.

  1. Boil a half gallon to a gallon of water and allow to cool for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Carefully pour half of it down the drain.
  3. Wait a few minutes.
  4. Pour the other half of the boiled water down the drain.

Additionally, 3-4 times a year, it's a good idea to flush your drains with a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. Follow these steps:

  1. Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain (use a funnel or a rolled-up piece of paper to get it all down the drain).
  2. Follow it with 1/2 cup of vinegar.
  3. Cover the drain tightly with a wet rag or rubber plug.
  4. After 5 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.
  5. TIP: The most important part is to make sure the drain is covered to trap the reaction and push through any buildup.

Welcome to Week 18 of the Weekly Home Check Three months have flown by, which means it’s time to swap out those air filters and clean the air purifiers again. 💨 Replace HVAC Filters For air return vents/grids: Locate the metal grid inside your home. They are generally in a central location, in the hallway or ceiling. Turn off the unit to prevent blowing dust. Open the grid, replace the used filter with a brand new one. I like to use a MERV 8, which can be found here. Close the grid, turn the...

This week, let’s tackle the walls, baseboards and floors. 🧹 Cleaning Floors, Baseboards, and Walls Walls & Baseboards Dust the entire surface. Mix 1 teaspoon of dish or castile soap with about 16 ounces of warm water into a spray bottle. Spray in a sweeping motion at an angle, avoiding direct spraying onto the wall. Use a damp microfiber flat mop to wipe off the soap, rinsing the mop as needed. For tough stains and...
