Welcome to Week 6 of the Weekly Home Check

We're spending more time cozied up indoors with our heaters running. So, let's replace our HVAC filters and clean our air purifiers so we can keep breathing fresh, clean air!

💨 Replace HVAC Filters

Air filters should be replaced about every 90 days, sometimes sooner if you have pets or allergies. Remember to measure the size of your filter then order the MERV depending on your needs. I like use a MERV 8 which can be found here.

For air return vents/grids:

1. Locate the metal grid inside your home. They are generally in a central location, in the hallway or ceiling.
2. Turn off the unit to prevent blowing dust.
3. Open grid, replace used filter with a brand new one.
4. Close the grid, turn the unit back on.

For air handlers/furnaces:

1. Turn off the unit.
2. On your HVAC, remove the old filter near the air handler/furnace with a brand new one from FilterEasy.
3. Turn the unit back on.

😶‍🌫️ Clean Air Purifier Filters

For those home owners with pets or allergies, an air purifier can do wonders to reduce the amount of dust in your home. I personally use this Coway Airmega which has been great. Regular cleaning helps keep air purifiers running efficiently and can extend their lifespan.

1. Turn off and unplug purifier.
2. Clean the air quality sensor with a cotton swab every 2 months
3. Clean the pre-filter every 2-4 weeks with a vacuum or rinse with water. Air dry & replace.
4. The filter should be replaced every 8-12 months. When you do replace, make sure to note in your home journal and log book so you remember.
