๐Ÿ  Week 40 Home Check Reminder

Welcome to Week 40 of the Weekly Home Check

The colder days are starting to come, it's time to prepare our homes for the cold weather. This week, our focus is on winterizing the outdoor spigots/faucets and sprinkler systems.

๐Ÿšฑ Winterize Outdoor Spigots:

Outdoor spigots, also known as faucets or hose bibs, are vulnerable to freezing temperatures. When water freezes, it expands and can cause pipes to burst. Hereโ€™s what you need to do:

  • Shut off Valve: If thereโ€™s a shut-off valve inside your house connected to the outdoor spigot, turn it off.
  • Disconnect Garden Hoses: Remove all garden hoses from the spigots. Water left inside can freeze and damage the spigot. Store your garden hose inside for the winter.
  • Drain the Water: Open the outdoor spigot to allow any remaining water to drain out.
  • Insulate: Pick up a faucet covers to place over the spigot. This extra layer helps prevent freezing.

๐ŸŒจ Winterize Sprinkler Systems:

Sprinkler systems need special attention before winter sets in to prevent costly repairs come spring. Hereโ€™s how you can winterize them:

  • Turn Off the Water Supply: Locate the main shut-off valve for your sprinkler system and turn off the water supply.
  • Drain the System: Use an air compressor to blow out any remaining water from the sprinkler pipes. This step is crucial to prevent freezing and cracking during winter.
  • Adjust Sprinkler Heads: Check all sprinkler heads to ensure they are level with the ground. Uneven heads can be damaged by snowplows or heavy snow.

Wishing all you homies a wonderful week full of lots of pumpkin spice everything!
