How Much of Your Personal Information Is Online?

We spend a lot of time protecting our homes, but what about our personal information? Your address, phone number, and other personal details can end up on sites that collect and expose your information, making it easier for scammers and other unwanted contacts to find you.

Incogni finds where your information is exposed and handles the removal process for you.

❄️ Winterize & Cover A/C Unit

A/C units are built to withstand the elements, but if your unit is near a tree or under a roof where icicles could fall, you may want to consider covering it for the winter. Be sure to check the manual and do not cover it if yours contains a heat pump.

  • Turn Off the Power: Switch off the power to the A/C at the disconnect box by the unit.
  • Clean the Unit: Remove debris, leaves, and any dirt from the exterior of the unit.
  • Cover It: Cover only the top of the unit with a tarp or a piece of plywood. Do not cover the entire unit as this will trap moisture, causing rust and provide a warm home for pests. (Suggested tarps here)
  • Trim Vegetation: Ensure there's no overhanging vegetation that could damage the unit during winter storms.

🏑 Have HVAC Professionally Serviced & Cleaned

If you've never had your unit serviced, consider contacting a local company for a check-up. This can cost $60-$90 and should be done every 2-3 years. The HVAC technician should:

  • Inspect Your System: They will check for any issues, worn-out parts, or potential problems.
  • Clean the System: Dust and debris can accumulate, affecting performance. A thorough cleaning keeps your air quality high.
  • Replace Parts if Necessary: Worn-out components can strain the system. Replacing them ensures efficient operation.
  • Ensure Safety: A professional check ensures your HVAC system is operating safely.

Always keep track of when your HVAC was serviced. In my Home Journal & Log Book, I've included a section where you can record these types of services for all your home appliances. Purchase a copy here.
