🏠 Week 38 Home Check Reminder

Welcome to Week 38 of the Weekly Home Check

I'm not sure about you, but I always put all my trash in a bag and somehow my trash bins still get dirty! It's also been 6 months since we last did this task, so this week, it’s time to give your indoor and outdoor trash bins a good clean!

πŸ—‘οΈ Indoor Trash Bins

Your indoor trash can often be a breeding ground for bacteria and odors. I find it easiest to take my bin outside and clean with a multipurpose cleaner or a mixture of equal parts water and vinegar, then rinse with my garden hose.

Here are five ways to keep your trash from getting too stinky in between cleans:

  1. Put baking soda into some coffee filters, tie them off with a rubber band, and drop them in the bottom.
  2. Add a couple of bags of activated charcoal in the bottom.
  3. Soak a couple of cotton balls with essential oils.
  4. Place a couple of dryer sheets at the bottom.
  5. Add a few citrus peels.

πŸ—‘οΈ Outdoor Trash & Recycle Bins

Regular maintenance keeps your outdoor trash & recycle bins clean and pest-free. If possible, use a high-pressure hose to remove debris and loose dirt. Then clean with a long scrub brush & some soapy water.

To deter pests, spray the inside with an essential oil such as eucalyptus or peppermint.
