Welcome to Week 1 of the Weekly Home Check and Happy New Year! 🎉 I’m so excited to kick off the 2026 Weekly Home Check together and start another year of simple, approachable home maintenance. For week 1, we’re focusing on getting organized by reviewing and updating some of the most important documents related to your home. Take a Video Inventory: Walk through your home and record everything, going room by room. Having a visual record of your belongings and home details can be incredibly helpful if something unexpected ever happens, like a natural disaster or insurance claim. Review & Update Your Insurance Policy: Take a look at your home insurance and make note of any new valuables (jewelry, electronics, etc.), recent renovations, or safety upgrades. Make sure everything is properly covered, and set a reminder for when your policy is up for renewal. Check Your Home Warranty: If you have a home warranty, review what’s covered, note expiration dates, and see if there are any repairs or replacements you’ve been putting off that might be eligible. Review Mortgage & Loan Documents: Go over your mortgage and loan agreements and check for any changes in rates or terms. Consider buying a fireproof folder* to store these important documents. Home Security Check: If you don’t already have one, consider a home security system. Not only does it add peace of mind, but it may also qualify you for a discount on your home insurance. Starting the year organized sets the tone for everything that follows. A little time spent now can save you stress later and that’s what the Weekly Home Check is all about.
